Meet the Herd

Welcome to my blog! This is something I’ve always wanted to do but never took the time to start. If you spend time on this blog you’ll probably start to recognize some key members of my story. I figured I’d introduce them to you now so you have an idea who you’re reading about as they come across the blog!

family

My family includes my dad – Randy, sister – Cheyenne, and brother – Cody. My dad started our cattle ranch in 1961 with one Angus heifer as a 4-H project when he was nine years old. My sister will be a Registered Nurse as of June 2017 and has plans to travel while working toward her goal of becoming a Life Flight nurse. Cody will graduate high school in June 2017 and plans to attend Walla Walla Community College to begin his education in agriculture.

dogs

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a day that these two little critters don’t end up somewhere on my social media. Bentley is a 5-year-old Pomeranian Shih Tzu mix full of attitude and style (clearly). Newt is a Pembrook Welsh Corgi with an addiction to cattle and snuggles. I’m a full on crazy dog mom, just so you know ahead of time.

kesslers legacy

While most of my time is spent caring for the cows, bulls like this one are my family’s business. Our bull sale is held annually on the 3rd Tuesday in February. Around 120 bulls will sell that day, with about 20-30 more being offered private treaty throughout the spring after the sale. Bulls are a serious business for us – this bull, Kesslers Legacy 5093, brought $24,000 in 2016.

  1. I have no idea how your blog showed up on my phone, but I somehow also feel blessed and fortunate that it did. You are SPOT on with your “5 values”. It is why I have stayed the course in this work in spite of poor performance monetarily. I just hope that my kids will see the real value. Maybe if I had gone to the other OSU instead, I know I was impressed with their judging team when competing a long time ago. I am stunned at how well you put our life/industry information out with with such accuracy and POSITIVE effect. Thank you to you and your family. GOOD WORK! I will start early again tomorrow, but with more enthusiasm.
